Lookbook: Flowers of the Field

Maxi Dress - TU at Sainsburys
Necklace - Topshop

We got some bank holiday sunshine in the UK today so i decided it  was the last chance I might get to wear a maxi dress with all the rubbish weather we've been having over here. I got this dress back at the start of summer because I liked the bright colour and cut, even though I don't normally wear patterns.

Fall Into Winter - Trends Part 2

Hello again! Hopefully my last post on the Autumn-Winter new trends inspired you to start thinking about your wardrobes and what you’ve got that you can carry over or start wearing now. So today I’m going to go over 3 more to add to that list so you can start to consider them.

Trend – Masculine

L-R Marios Schwab, Paul Smith, Topshop Unique, Vivienne Westwood

As Autumn styles roll round I always feel that we lose the floaty, carefree spring silhouettes and head into a more tailored finish. This year the masculine trend has been going strong year after year and become a staple style for girls. This year we are looking at slim leg trousers and pajama trousers as well as cropped styles which were worn with a well-placed ankle strapped shoe.

I have always loved Vivienne Westwood for how she does the mansculine trend as her cuts always allow you to look super feminine at the same time. If you don’t want to go too manish take a leaf out of Topshop Uniques looks with a crop top and a jacket to show off your waistline. Wear with courts or loafers and go for satin, velvet and beading to give a nod to the AW catwalks opulence.

Trend –Oversized

L-R Topshop Unique, J. Crew, Ashish, Simone Rocha

Oversized is a trend I think everyone can appreciate for the days you just don’t fancy restrictive clothing. Think billowing trousers, baggy T-shirt dresses, Jumpers with midi skirts or dresses and cocoon coats. Worried about looking shapeless? Pair oversized jumpers or coats with your skinny jeans or leggings to streamline your look.

A good way to dress up this style is to add in some or this season’s geometric prints or add a touch of glamour with collar necklaces or layer necklaces over each other to add a touch of the layering trend. Keep the look feminine by pairing with heels, whether in the form of lace up boots or girly court shoes.

Trend – Purple/Berry Tones

L-R  Christopher Kane, Alberta Ferretti, J. Mendel, Burberry Prorsum

Autumns palate always heads a bit darker and a clear winner this year seemed to be the purple and berry tones that cascaded down the catwalk. Purple has always been a colour associated with royalty so it will add a bit of luxury to your wardrobe and the best thing is purple is a colour that suits EVERY skin tone and colour as it is a mixture of warm and cool. So whether its Amethyst, Violet or Blackberry get this colour in your wardrobe.

For the colour shy or those of you that are fond of having an all-black wardrobe use your accessories to get an injection of purple to your wardrobe with shoes and bags. And luckily I feel purple is a colour that goes with all metallic tones, but for AW I think I’ll be mixing in a bit gunmetal to give it a grunge feel.

Hope you are enjoying my breakdowns. Let me know how you’ll be considering these trends!

Lookbook: Sailboats Wish That They Were Stars

Plaid Shirt - Zara
Lace Dress - Primark
Cowboy Boots - Rocket Dog
Bag - H&M
Sunglasses - Ray Ban

I wore this outfit when traveling back from my friends in Scotland a week or so back and it was the first day of hot sunny weather we had. Just my luck. The other days I'd been up it had been Sunshine and Showers but generally cold.

We spent a lovely morning before traveling home walking up and down the seafront and eating locally made ice cream before i started my six and a half hour journey home. So I decided to wear something comfortable, casual and easy to pull a large suitcase in while getting on and off trains. I went a little western with this look. I like to have a bit of a theme to my outfits.

Review: Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain Balm

Revlon recently released its Just Bitten Lip Stain Balm into the UK and with one look at it i knew i had to try it. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of lipsticks normally as i feel they give me 'trout pout' and dry out my lips too much so the idea of a lip balm with stain that isn't in a pot has a huge appeal on me.

Revlon used the sales line "A pampering balm fused with a lightweight lip stain in an adorable chubby crayon" and as you can see from the packaging it does have a certain Crayola like look to it. I find it easy to apply and the colour can be built up to give a subtle or more extreme pop to your lips. With the added bonus of being a balm my lips felt moisturized and soft and lasted for a few hours before I felt the need to top up the balm, the colour however was still great. Small and simply packaged means that it is perfect for throwing into a clutch bag for a night out. The smell of the product isn't bad, it has a slight menthol quality to it but i like it.

There are currently 12 shades in the range going from subtle bubblegum pinks through to sultry plum. I chose to try Rendevous a coral that builds to a bright orange when applied over itself repeatedly. Above is my lips before and after one application so you can see the difference. I have also got Revlons Just Bitten Lip Stain Duo which I will review over the next few weeks so you can see the difference.

Have you tried this product? What did you think? Is there a product similar that you like?

Lookbook: Black and Silver

Top - Topshop
Jeans - Topshop Baxter
Bracelets - Various shops
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins

I'll be honest I can't really think of an interesting name for this look but I based the outfit around a black and silver theme so it makes sense to me. I wanted a look that was girly but a bit tough, so i put on my old bow ribbon top and toughened it up with studded accessories i had lying around and hadn't worn for a while. I styled this on a day when it was warm but as i'd come home from work it was starting to cool down for the evening. Very comfy. As you can probably tell by now I live in my Baxter jeans, they are just so comfy!

Fall into Winter - Trends Part 1

Now I know it seems to some of your reading this a bit pre-mature to be thinking about Autumn (Fall) wardrobes but unfortunately here in the UK it seems like our weather wants to stay eternally in-between seasons. You never quite know what weather you are going to get. So while I was thinking about this I started looking back at the AW12 catwalks to see what we can take to start our transition through to the chillier months and look at some of the trends.

Now when I did my Spring-Summer catwalk break down I went over a lot of the trends in one go. As a Fledgling blogger I suppose it made sense to me however for Autumn-Winter I’m going to spread the trends over a few posts, the first of which seems apt with the aforementioned weather.

Trend – Layering

L-R Chanel, Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Balmain

Brilliant for when the weather doesn’t know what to do, layering is something that always seems to be a staple on the AW catwalks and you can do it in almost any way you like. This year knits are taking centre stage, whether as a long cardigan coat as seen at Chanel or fine knits in almost identical hues layered over each other at Vivienne Westwood. You can even look to mix in other textures like faux fur, velvet or sheer fabrics to give the look a floaty feel.

Ideally pair this look with heels to keep the look from feeling too bulky and if you do feel like you lose your shape a little try adding another key AW trend to the mix by adding a waist belt to cinch you in and give you your curves back.

Trend – Belts

L-R Temperley London, Mulbery, John Galliano, Balmain

Belts were a key accessory for AW12 and seen on most catwalks like Dior, Balmain, Chloe and Temperley London however I loved how Mulberry did belts best. Worn over your winter coat to bring you some polish to an otherwise standard Autumn staple, to add that final touch to your skirt or just to show of your waist in that dress you love, make sure you have a waist belt in your AW check list.

Now the belts on the catwalk came in all shapes, sizes and thicknesses so it is a case of anything goes however if you want to lengthen your torso opt for one in the same colour as your outfit so that the eye doesn’t break up your body when looking at the outfit.

Trend – Leather

L-R Christopher Kane, Topshop Unique, Kate Spade, Emillio de la Morena

Leather is the last we’re going to look at today because as a fabric it can mix into any trend, so think about leather when buying your new pieces. Some of you may already have a few leather pieces in your wardrobe that you can use or update to bring it into the AW bracket. If you don’t or just don’t like the idea of a leather skirt, trousers or coat look to add touches of it into your wardrobe. Red Leather gloves as seen at Kate Spade could give a pop to a simple outfit and tick the leather box, or a leather panel on a skirt as seen at Topshop Unique can give you your tick in a subtle and versatile way.

I’ll be adding in my leather subtlety and treating myself to a nice pair of leather gloves this year so I can start wearing them just as the weather drops cooler with a layered outfit and then with my coat and waist belt when winter truly sets in.

Hope this helps you and gets you thinking about how you’ll be updating your wardrobe!

Let me know how you will be trying these trends and maybe even leave me a link to your photos.

Lookbook: Sunshine and Showers

Hat - H&M
Scarf - Zara
Jumper - H&M
Vest (Under Jumper) - Topshop
Jeans - Topshop Baxter
Shoes - Converse
Umbrella - Primark

I spent last weekend visiting my BFF in Scotland, which was amazing but the weather was incredibly unpredictable. Cloudy and cold, rainy but warm or a full blow heat wave and you could have all three in one day making it a nightmare to decide what to wear. I chose to go for jeans, converse and a light short sleeved jumper to make sure I had layers but was comfortable with all the walking we had planned. It was so amazing to see my friend again, we laughed so hard we cried and our stomach muscles will have improved ten fold!

Heres some Photos from my weekend.

Here's hoping whatever you did at the weekend you had an amazing time.

My Little Obsession

I will not lie, Pinterest is like an obsession of mine. I love raiding through the site looking for interesting ideas, fashion inspiration, fantastic photographs, new laughs and DIY projects. I can spend hours looking through the site, and so far I've found that 'Pins' come to me at times when I'm talking to my friends and I can tell them about the idea to help them or give them something to try. I have a few friends planning weddings so i created an events board for weddings so i can pin anything related to it there so when they want inspiration they can check it out.

So follow me on Pinterest or just go to my Pinterest page if you want to see more.

Do you have Pinterest? Leave me a link so i can check out your boards.

Lookbook: My heart was beating like a bomb in a birdcage...

Dress - ASOS
Birdcage Necklace - Topshop
Bag - Mulberry
Watch - Vivienne Westwood

I wore this outfit as the weather was staring to warm up. I love this dress because people always think its a jumper and a top. The jumper is quite thin too so its nice for those sunny days with a bit of chill. I wore it with my lace up military boots for a less girly feel, and my birdcage necklace. My whole outfit was based around a black and gold theme.

Hope you like it,
